Southern Maine Restauarnt Week May 31- June 6

Restaurantweeklogo4 Hungry?

Not a problem for long in Southern Maine! Restaurants can be found dotting Route 1 and village centers, including some pretty tasty choices in Ogunquit. Even better, next week several of our favorite restaurants in Ogunquit, York, Kittery and Kennebunkport are joining in for Southern Maine Restaurant Week.

Restaurants participating will be offering 3 course meals for lunch or dinner for $16.95 and $29.95 per person. Now that's a steal when you consider just an entree alone can cost $25!

So where can you take advantage of these deals?

Blue Sky on York Beach - awesome setting in the heart of Short Sands Beach area with a great deck for dining outside. You'll overlook the shops and experience Lydia Shire's creations.

Clay Hill Farm - Gorgeous romantic setting (you're in luck if you have a birthday or annivesary you need to celebrate next week!) and delicious food. An Environmental Leader like the Meadowmere, Clay Hill was also part of the Green Wedding Giveaway.

Inn on the Blues - Nothing fancy, just a great to go some place relaxed when you want to hear the blues. Great live music in the heart of Short Sands Beach, perfect after beach stop.

On the Marsh - Gourmet and beautiful. Set in an old colonial and featuring a James Beard nominee. Yes, it's fancier and requires a little bit of dress up, but for $29.95, it's worth heel and a tie!

There's more restaurants - enough to satify your hunger - so be sure to check them out!

Ogunquit AIDS Quilt Visits This Memorial Day

Gallery1-1 Every year on Memorial Day weekend, AIDS quilt panels are placed on display in the town hall of Ogunquit. It is strange knowing that such a sober and moving display lies at the center of Ogunquit village as so many rush to enjoy restaurants, shops and Meadowmere on their Memorial Day vacation to Ogunquit. A calm in the middle of a storm, so to say.

Many visitors miss this opportunity to see the heartfelt memorials quilted together. Though it may not be a typical vacation activity, visiting the AIDS quilt as the panels make their only stop in Maine is worth a moment. The time and care put into the quilts by friends and family is touching. There are simple designs and elaborate memorials contrasted next to each other (see pictures of the quilts online). There is a sense of awe when reading the dedications and profund sadness when glancing at some of the ages. AIDS research has come so far - and yet a new panel seems to come every year. (Local familes can request to have their panel make the trip to be at certain nearby displays - often the only time that they see their memorial of their loved one. And donations made at displays help to find a cure.)

Gallery1-2 Visiting the AIDS quilt memorial takes just a moment (and it truly takes just a moment to see the displays). If you plan to join in the rush to restaurants, shops and Ogunquit beach this Memorial Day, take a moment to see the calm in the storm and to walk with your hand in your loved ones, remembering the really important things. It's worth a moment.

Make Way for Ducklings in Ogunquit Maine!

Visitors to our Ogunquit hotel and inn! This morning at the Meadowmere we had an early check in of a rather large family. Ms. Momma Duck with kids in tow arrived at 10am. She enjoyed our garden area and tried to relax on the patio, but the 'kids' wouldn't let her rest (we think they wanted to go in the indoor pool). They kept waddling around and chirping and wouldn't you know it - getting into everything!

So she decided to pack up the family and head to Ogunquit Beach for the day.

Maybe she'll check in later .  . .

Drip, drop - A ironic and watery tale from Ogunquit

Footer_home_logo So there's a bit of a fire storm in Ogunquit Maine over Poland Springs. Seems the company would like to have access to local water supplies. Now, Poland Springs is a great company and a Maine (sort-of - Nestle owns them now) company. And access to water is an important issue. But that's not where this is going.

Today we are having our trusty and faithful electrician make some changes in the back office at our hotel so that the Poland Springs water cooler will work in it's new area. Turns out, there quite a bit of wiring and the back office at the Meadowmere is a mess right now (yep - check in time on Friday. Not the plan, but sometimes you just end up there). We are hustling and bustling around -after all it's Victoria Day weekend in Ogunquit. Really, it's making us quite thirsty.

So when the electrician is done and the mess put away, we will enjoy our Poland Springs water. Which may in the end, be just the same as turning on the tap. What a drippy story indeed! Cheers!

Classic Car Clubs - Tips to Enjoying Ogunquit

Bessie1 We're pretty big fans of the car clubs here are the Meadowmere. With special parking, room locations, packages and more than a few staff compliments waiting for your vehicle, we've seen quite a few engines roar. From custom ordered corvettes to the classics - we even have an in house beauty affectionately known as Bessie. She makes her appearances in the Spring and Fall when the sun is shining and our fearless Stu treats her for a drive.

So in dedication to Bessie, here are a few tips to enjoy Ogunquit Maine and the Meadowmere as a car club:

  • Be sure to book your group early for the West Meadow or, if you are a large party, the Country Squire locations. This way, you'll have reserved parking to welcome the club upon arrival. Bessie2
  • Check out CruiseMaine.net to find spots to stop and routes to drive state wide. Also feel free to ask us about local routes if you have something special in mind. The best and most scenic dirving routes in Southern Maine are all easy to reach from Ogunquit. We've help many a corvette club explore the back roads - all paved of course!

  • Let us know if you need hoses, buckets or rags - gotta make her shine! It's also important to know the car washes in the area and we are happy to make recommendations on who knows how to take good care of your car.Bessie3

  • Remember that parking for a large car club can be a challenge at restaurants and around Ogunquit. We can help find restaurants open to car clubs in Southern Maine and advise you on local parking rates and accessibility.

  • Of course, car clubs are about hanging out with all your friends (and the drive). So after exploring a road with a few great corners and feeling the sea breeze (open windows, top down - gotta love the smell of the ocean), we can help arrange some fun at the West Meadow Pub or at Jonathan's. There's even a package option for your car group.Bessie4

  • Finally, there's nothing like a little friendly competition among car enthusiasts! From finding a drive in or local car show to organizing a staff favorite vote - our hotel is happy to find a way to help show off your beauty and have a little fun in Ogunquit!

So now that the weather is good, remember to look for Bessie and start those engines!

Taste Magazine's May Top 10

5967 The votes are in! Congratulations to The Green Monkey in Portsmouth, NH - #1 for May 2009!

1. The Green Monkey
2. Anneke Jans
3. Jumpin Jays
4. The Wellington Room
5. Café Nostimo
6. The Black Trumpet
7. Ristorante Massimo
8. Café Mediterraneo
9. Roberts Maine Grill
10. Agave

In honor of Mother's Day, we thought we would point out a few of May's top ten that will be showing Mom a good time this Sunday! Brunches and special Mom's day menus can be found at Anneke Jans (make those reservations!). The Black Trumphet (one of the few times this restaurant serves a brunch - a real treat) and Roberts Maine Grill (a Green Alliance certified restaurant and in the middle of the outlets - best pick for getting a last minute gift). Now, that's not to say Jonathan's won't have an excellent brunch on tje Meadowmere's Mother' Day Ogunquit getaway this weekend - they are gearing up with a tasty menu. But just in case you are still looking for how to treat good ole' Mom, it's nice to have a few options. There's still a little time left to be creative and even if it's just a one night escape, an in room gift or massage is a nice touch. And if you follow us on twitter at OgunquitResort, we gave an early Mother's Day gift on Jacuzzi suites yesterday - we love ya Moms!
