Pat Foley - Our Idol!

Theshed1 For those of you who enjoy our regular pub entertainment at our Ogunquit hotel (it's part of our online calendar), we've got great news! Our very own Pat Foley will be auditioning for a new American Idol show. He got the call and he's headed to Nashville.

The only downside is that he will not be performing on March 7th as scheduled. We'll have the switch completed soon online  to bassist Paul Luff who will be joining us. Pat will be back on April 4th - so be sure too come see him - he'll have the scoop on the Idol judges!

Maine Maple Weekend - Must Be Popular!

Puremainesyrup1 We're starting to think the Maine Maple weekend is getting popular. Looks like so many people are interested is visiting, other hotels are adding Maine Maple packages to their line up. Since we started this package years ago and Maine Maple Sunday was a small artisan celebration, it's great to now that the syrup makers will see new and more faces.

And after all, there is a saying about imitation.

You can read about the syrup makers in preparation for your trip here: http://www.getrealmaine.com/visit/documents/MicrosoftWord-MaineMapleSunday2009.pdf

Maine Maple Weekend - A Sweet Pick!

Mapleoval Check out the New England Deal Sheet - the Maine Maple package was a sweet deal pick:

http://gonewengland.about.com/cs/traveldeals/l/bldealsheet2.htm

Maine Maple Day is a great time to pop up to Maine and have some fun (it's March 20-22, with the official day of March 22). The local sugar shacks open up and share the entire maple syrup making process with you. A lot of the sugar makers are artisans - and they'll showcase all sorts of goodies. Maple syrup is just a start - you can try candies, cookies, cakes, ice creams and more. Plus some of the shacks are on farms with animals like alpacas and dairy cows. The ice cream is often home made and you can pick up some pretty neat yarn and sweaters. It is really amazing talent that's about 20 minutes from us.

So sure, we are telling you to go take a drive in the Maine woods - but each stop on the Maine Sugar Trail is a sweet treat. And we give you a map so you'll find your way back to the hot tub!

Maine Restaurant Week is looking good and yummy!

Web_dom The list keeps growing! Ogunquit's MC Perkins Cove is on the list and James Beard winner Fore Street as well. For Maine Restaurant Week, the deal is that each restaurant is offering menus for $20.09, $30.09 and $40.09. The menus look great - Hugo's is very, very tempting.

If you can't travel up to Portland (that's where most of the restaurants are), local choices on the list are MC's, Grissini and the Port Tavern and Grille. There's also our Ogunquit Restaurant calendar for off season deals.

Hey, you gotta eat! Might as well dine out more . . . for less!

Pitter - Patter - Pitter - Patter . . . and puke? Patience please!

6685 Well that's what happened last night when one family's children had a little too much soda, candy, running and rough-housing. After receiving a call from a neighboring guest to "please, please be relocated away from this family" (they were - right away) a quick trip to the area revealed that the kids were bouncing off the walls (literally) of the hallway. The result of this roughhousing was that one of the kids had vomited in the hallway of our Ogunquit hotel.

Naturally, this begs the question where were the parents? In their room, listening to the bouncing. Well, did they clean up or call for some help to clean up? Unfortunately not. One of our staff deep cleaned the area and got it smelling like roses again. Certainly the kids stopped behaving that way, you say! Nope - in fact several more visits to that area and family have been made.

Each year we do our best at the Meadowmere to keep up with any concerns over school vacation. What makes it worthwhile are those families who never create such concerns and share family photos and how things have been over the last year, who are respectful of the resort and who kindly thank us for trying our best. The familiar faces who share vacation after vacation. We have heartwarming tales of pen pals and bringing one's kids to the place that was so much fun when mom or dad was a kid. Generations. It's very rewarding.

So rather than create a huge kid fee per night (we've seen up to $50 per child per night - steep) or a behavior deposit (yep - there's place in New England that makes parents leave a $500 deposit when traveling with children - refundable based on room condition and behavior. No messing around there), we going to keep doing our best. It;s seems much more fair to those who don't create the pitter- patter effect.

So please help us out and keep the little one from bouncing off the walls!

A rare sight - Where are the children?

Pool February regulars are well aware that school vacation is a racous time at the resort. Kids are everywhere - even when we do our best to keep the outdoor hot tub and fitness areas adult.

There is one spot above all others that seems to be like a moth to a flame, bees to honey - the indoor pool. This morning, families were having a great time. But right now, it's quiet. Too quiet. Where are the children?
