As we gear up in the last hours of 2008 at our Ogunquit hotel, a last minute Happy New Year from Ogunquit!
In 3 hours, at 9pm, Jonathan's Upstairs/Downstair party kicks off (we can't wait - the DJ is amazing) and we saw a few people gearing up with party hats and noisemakers.
And remember - this is the last year for those funny glasses - their collector's items now!
Must the Spring like weather we've been having lately in Ogunquit . . . Valentine's Day is on our minds at the Meadowmere. Just a little note that this year, Jonathan's is having a Sweet Heart's dance on Saturday, February 14th (since the holiday - yes, guys, this one makes the holiday list - falls on a weekend night in 2009).
Our Valentine's package will return this year for the February 6-8 and 13-15 weekends. Don't drag your heels - that's only 5 weeks away!
Since many of you miss the beauty of winter in Ogunquit - we've got some recent pictures of our Ogunquit hotel from the most recent storm. The first snow of the year is always the the most pretty!

We've got a fun new way to get cooking 101 and not stress. The Meadowmere has just launched a new culinary/spa package with Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School. Don't panic just yet - you really do more of the tasting than cooking. But the chefs give plenty of tips (want to get rid of brown on your greens? skip the regular knife and pick up a Zyliss http://www.amazon.com/Zyliss-Fresh-Cut-Salad-Knife/dp/B000FH4N0G - it's the metal that's dooming your salad) and dole out lots of treats (the classes are 3-5 courses).
And if you're still nervous, they serve wine. And if you're at the head of the class, you get 10% off the cooking school store - gadgets are everywhere. It's like a candy store for cooks!
Finally, soak in all the new cooking know-how with a massage at the resort.
Hey - since the winter weather is already frightful, this may a good way to add a pinch (maybe even a dash) of fun!

We've made headlines - but not in the best of ways. The Portland Press Herald visited Ogunquit and spoke with local businesses about the impact of the ice storm.
We hope everyone who had to cancel their plans at our Ogunquit hotel will try for this weekends or next year's Christmas by the Sea!

There are some usual suspects to this list - and its nice to see Rudi's has become a local favorite (we enjoyed our visit quite a bit). One place we have yet to visit is Brazo. Rumor has it, the Latin American restaurant is worth the trip. Share if you know for sure!

By now, most of the world seems to know that New England came to a frozen halt Thursday into Friday. There just is no way to describe the huge loss to everyone in the area. However, we did want to thank a few special groups:
-The wonderful crews (some from as far away as Michigan- unbelievable!) - you got us back!
-The families that shared the adventure with us (check out Earl Yorke's blog - quite a trooper. http://www.earlyorke.com/2008/12/15/ice-storm-temporary-end-of-the-world-for-a-few-of-us/#comment-14713) - Especially the Ford family who said 'we hanging in with you'! Thank you for visiting us for over 15 years - this one goes in the record books!
-Our staff and friends that helped out so much over the last few days. It's a bit scary to have over 115 bathrooms and piping facing freeze up, but the generators drove in from family and friends in Massachusetts and Sanford to save the day. And from the moment the lights went out, our staff worked around the clock to help guests and save the building. Darn right we're having a holiday party this year - we appreciation each hour and every effort!
All is well and now that we are up, we have put out Winter Storm special into effect for local people in need. Please do not risk the cold - we here and we are happy to help!
